i'm not dead, you know

Most of my 'contemporaries' hate it, but I find that 'Frances The Mute' by the Mars Volta is perhaps the most inspired album I have ever heard.

It is a concept, yes... and whether or not this concept is purely-fictional, or 'based on true events', it still evokes a mood or memory in me that no other album has.

2005 was a good year for music all around, what with the Arcade Fire, and Bright Eyes, and new albums from Coldplay and nine inch nails and so forth...

They all had their own concepts. They all had their own specific things to say. The Arcade Fire is so sepia-toned that sometimes it drives me to drink lemonade and watch an iTunes plug-in.

Frances The Mute speaks on an apocalyptic level- the technicality of music is being torn apart, as is the meaning behind it all. I don't know.

It's the sort of thing I could never listen to all the way through, yet still bleat upon the brilliance of. Like a short film of David Lynch.

Anyhow, carry on. Diaryland, what's that?
